Philippines Travel Overview
The Philippines is a stunning archipelago, boasting over 7,000 islands, each with its unique charm. From pristine beaches to vibrant city life, every corner offers something special. The best time to visit is typically between November and April when the weather is dry and perfect for exploring.
With a rich cultural heritage influenced by various nations, the Philippines is a melting pot of traditions. Visitors can enjoy a variety of activities ranging from island hopping, diving, and surfing to indulging in the local cuisine. Prepare to be enchanted by the warmth of the locals and the breathtaking landscapes.
Discovering Siargao: The Surfing Capital
Siargao is renowned as the surfing capital of the Philippines, famous for its powerful waves at Cloud 9. This idyllic island has much more to offer beyond surfing, including stunning lagoons and breathtaking island-hopping opportunities.
During my five-day stay, I based myself in General Luna, the main town located just south of Cloud 9. From here, you can easily access neighboring islands like Daku Island, Virgin Island, Naked Island, and the popular Guyam Island. Island hopping from General Luna can be done in just half a day!

A must-visit is Sugba Lagoon located on the southwestern side of the island. It’s one of the most beautiful lagoons I’ve ever seen, perfect for swimming and paddleboarding.
El Nido: The Crown Jewel of Palawan
Next, we venture to El Nido, often referred to as the crown jewel of Palawan. This area is famous for its stunning limestone cliffs, crystal-clear waters, and vibrant marine life. The best time to visit is between January and May, as the rainy season can hinder exploration.
To reach El Nido, fly into Puerto Princesa, where you can also visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Subterranean River. From there, take a 4-5 hour van ride to El Nido. The main beach area offers various accommodations, making it easy to find a place to stay.

El Nido is surrounded by numerous islands and lagoons, including Big Lagoon, Small Lagoon, and Secret Lagoon. Each spot offers unique experiences, from kayaking to snorkeling in vibrant coral gardens.
Exploring Coron: A Diver’s Paradise
Coron is a diver’s paradise, located a ferry ride away from El Nido. The main town is on Busuanga Island, but the real attractions lie in the surrounding waters. Popular dive spots include Barracuda Lake, Twin Lagoons, and the pristine coral gardens.
Many travelers spend about three days in Coron to fully enjoy the underwater wonders. The scenery is unparalleled, making it a must-visit destination for water sports enthusiasts.

Accommodations in Coron town offer easy access to dive shops and tour operators. Make sure to stay close to the town for convenience.
Boracay: The Party Island
Boracay is often hailed as one of the best islands in the world, known for its lively atmosphere and powdery white sand beaches. While it might be packed with tourists, it’s an excellent destination if you’re looking for nightlife and beach activities.
White Beach is the main attraction, offering various water sports, beach bars, and restaurants. For a more relaxed vibe, check out Puka Beach, known for its unique shell sand.

However, if you prefer peace and tranquility, Boracay may not be your ideal destination. There are plenty of other islands that provide a more serene beach experience.
Cebu: The Heart of the Visayas
Cebu is the heart of the Visayas, featuring stunning landscapes and rich history. The island is divided into North and South, each boasting its unique attractions. North Cebu is home to Bantayan Island, Malapascua Island, and the Cebu Safari and Adventure Park.
In South Cebu, visitors can enjoy whale shark watching in Oslob and explore the beautiful Sumilon Island. One of my favorite activities in Cebu is waterfall chasing. The island is dotted with numerous waterfalls, perfect for a refreshing dip!

Moalboal is another highlight, famous for the sardine run and vibrant marine life. The easiest way to reach Cebu is by flying into Cebu City, located on Mactan Island.
Bohol: Nature’s Wonderland
Bohol is a treasure trove of natural wonders, with its lush landscapes and unique geological formations. The island is home to the famous Chocolate Hills, a series of over 1,200 symmetrical hills that turn brown in the dry season, resembling chocolate mounds. While they look like something out of a storybook, their formation remains a geological mystery.

For those seeking adventure, the Loboc River offers scenic cruises where you can enjoy a buffet meal while surrounded by verdant hills. Don’t miss the chance to visit the Tarsier Sanctuary, where you can see the world’s smallest primate up close. These adorable creatures are a sight to behold, known for their large, expressive eyes.

Beach lovers will find paradise in Panglao, known for its stunning white sand beaches and vibrant marine life. Alona Beach is the most popular spot, bustling with beach bars and diving shops. For a more serene experience, try Dumaluan Beach, which offers tranquility away from the crowds.

Siquijor: The Enchanted Island
Siquijor, often referred to as the “Mystical Island,” is known for its enchanting beauty and rich folklore. The island is dotted with beautiful beaches, stunning waterfalls, and a laid-back atmosphere. Rent a scooter and explore the island at your own pace, stopping at local attractions such as the Cambugahay Falls, where you can swim in refreshing turquoise waters.

Don’t forget to visit Paliton Beach, a hidden gem with powdery white sand and clear waters, perfect for a quiet day under the sun. The island also has a vibrant local culture, with many historical churches and traditional healing practices that reflect its rich heritage.

For those interested in the mystical side of Siquijor, check out the old balete tree where you can experience fish spa treatments. The large tree, with its roots sprawling over the water, creates a unique atmosphere for relaxation and rejuvenation.

Manila, the capital city of the Philippines, is a bustling metropolis that combines rich history with modernity. Explore the historical district of Intramuros, where Spanish colonial architecture tells the story of the Philippines’ past. Visit Fort Santiago and San Agustin Church, both significant landmarks that reflect the country’s heritage.
Manila is also a foodie’s paradise. Sample local dishes such as adobo, sinigang, and lechon at various eateries and restaurants. Don’t miss the chance to visit the vibrant markets, where you can find everything from fresh produce to handmade crafts.

Davao City, located on the southern island of Mindanao, offers a blend of urban and natural attractions. It’s known for its proximity to Mount Apo, the highest peak in the Philippines. Hiking enthusiasts can take on the challenge of climbing this majestic mountain, which rewards adventurers with stunning views and diverse flora and fauna.
In Davao, you can also visit the Philippine Eagle Center, dedicated to the conservation of the critically endangered Philippine Eagle. Here, you can learn about the efforts to protect this majestic bird and see it up close.
Another must-visit is Samal Island, just a short ferry ride from Davao City. Known as “The Garden Paradise,” it offers stunning beaches, crystal-clear waters, and lush greenery, making it the perfect spot for relaxation and outdoor activities.

The province offers a delightful blend of history, culture, and modern amenities. One of the highlights is the city of Angeles, home to Clark Freeport Zone, which has transformed into a bustling hub for business and leisure.
