A Journey into Little India
Today, we’re stepping into the vibrant world of Little India in Singapore. This bustling area is famous for its rich culture and, of course, its delectable Indian cuisine. Our main focus today is a popular vegetarian curry restaurant that has captured the hearts and taste buds of many.
For a first-timer in Singapore, we recommend you to go with our 3-day Singapore adventure itinerary if possible.
Discovering a Unique Vegetarian Restaurant
The restaurant we’re visiting stands out because it serves entirely vegetarian dishes. It’s a refreshing experience, especially for those who have never dined at a fully vegetarian Indian restaurant. As we wait for our meal, we’re pleasantly surprised to find that they offer complimentary lemon juice to guests in line. This thoughtful gesture makes the wait much more enjoyable.
Anticipation Builds
While waiting, we notice a mix of both tourists and local Indian residents, indicating that this place must be quite good. After about ten minutes, it’s finally our turn to be seated. I take a moment to ask the staff about the spice level, as I want to ensure it’s suitable for everyone in our group.
Delicious Dishes Await
One of the first dishes we try is a large wrap, which is sure to delight kids with its fun presentation. This wrap is paired with a set meal that includes Indian fried rice and a curry. The wrap is crunchy and has a delightful texture that makes it enjoyable to eat.
A Flavorful Experience
The curry served is a tomato-based sauce that seems to include lentils, giving it a hearty feel. All the dishes are made entirely from vegetables, contributing to a lighter and fresher taste. In addition to the curry, we also enjoy a salad made from yoghurt and cream, which adds a cooling effect to our meal.
Accompaniments that Enhance the Meal
The fried rice set comes with two types of bread. One is soft and slightly meaty in flavour, while the other is crispy, similar to shrimp crackers. Everyone in the group seems to enjoy the meal, as the portions are generous, making it just right for three people to share two sets.
Exploring the Vibrant Neighborhood
After our satisfying meal, we decide to explore the Little India area further. The neighbourhood is quite large, filled with shops selling Indian clothing and various souvenirs. Some of the shops even sell charming trinkets for children, making it a family-friendly environment.
Visiting a Local Indian Temple
While wandering, we stumble upon a small Indian temple, which serves as a landmark in this historic area. Little India is rich in history, with many old buildings that bring a unique charm to the streets. The blend of old architecture and the bustling atmosphere creates a captivating experience.
Shopping at Mustafa Centre

Next, we make our way to Mustafa Centre, a well-known shopping destination in Little India. Recommended by a Japanese colleague, this place is known for its extensive range of products. It’s a massive complex with four floors, offering everything from groceries to electronics.
Exploring the Diverse Offerings
As we explore the first floor, we come across various watches, accessories, and everyday items. Moving to the second floor, we find souvenirs and snacks from different parts of Asia, all reasonably priced. There’s even a section dedicated to various chocolates from around the world, showcasing the diversity of products available.
Experiencing Local Flavors
On the ground floor, there’s a grocery store that offers a wide selection of Indian spices. The fragrant aroma fills the air, enhancing the shopping experience. After browsing through the various sections, we decide to head to a market within Little India to soak in the lively atmosphere.
Shopping for Indian Sweets
At the market, we aim to find some famous Indian sweets. While I’ve had my fair share of these treats, I’m excited to explore new options. The shops are lively, with Indian music playing, creating a festive atmosphere.
Choosing Sweet Delights
We discover a well-known shop specializing in Indian sweets. The prices are quite affordable, with most sweets costing under two dollars each. We decide to pick six different pieces to take home and enjoy later.
A Sweet Ending to Our Day
After our shopping spree, we returned home to indulge in the sweets we bought. Each piece is incredibly sweet, and I find myself reminiscing about past experiences with Indian desserts. The flavours are rich and intense, providing a delightful end to our culinary adventure.
Final Thoughts
Overall, our day in Little India was filled with delicious food, vibrant shopping experiences, and a taste of local culture. The vegetarian restaurant we visited was a unique find, and the exploration of the area offered insights into the rich Indian heritage present in Singapore.
