Travelling with family can be both exciting and challenging, especially when it involves navigating new cultures and environments. Through ExploreSEAsia, I’ll share our unforgettable five-day adventure in Da Nang, Vietnam, where we experienced the beauty and richness of the local culture.
Why You Should Avoid December in Da Nang
Our journey began with a reminder: don’t visit Da Nang in December! The weather can be quite unpredictable, and during our stay, we encountered heavy rain that affected our plans. While the allure of Da Nang is strong, it’s essential to choose the right time to visit.
Our Itinerary: A Quick Overview
We were on a guided tour, which was a convenient choice given that we were travelling with our parents. Here’s a brief overview of our itinerary:
- Day 1: Arrival in Hoi An, exploring the ancient town.
- Day 2: Experiencing the local bamboo basket boats and visiting local markets.
- Day 3: Touring the Imperial City in Hue.
- Day 4: A visit to Ba Na Hills.
- Day 5: Relaxing at My Khe Beach.
Day 1: Discovering Hoi An
Our first day was spent exploring Hoi An, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The evening was particularly magical as the town transformed with lights, making the streets look enchanting.
The water levels were unusually high, which added a unique touch to our visit. As we walked through the streets, we enjoyed the traditional Vietnamese dress, known as “ao dai,” and admired the vibrant atmosphere.
Day 2: The Bamboo Basket Boat Experience
On the second day, we embarked on a memorable adventure on the bamboo basket boats. These round, traditional boats are a unique aspect of Vietnamese culture, and we couldn’t wait to try them out.
As we paddled around, we laughed and enjoyed the experience. However, it was a bit challenging to navigate without getting wet!
Exploring the Local Market
Our next stop was a local market that was bustling with activity. Here, we found a variety of local fruits, clothes, and snacks. Bargaining was a fun challenge, and we enjoyed the vibrant atmosphere.
We tried some local delicacies, including unique snacks that were a hit with the whole family. The market was a true representation of local life, and we loved every moment spent there.
Day 3: The Imperial City in Hue
On the third day, we made our way to Hue, where we visited the Imperial City. Despite the rain, the historical significance of the site was awe-inspiring.
Walking through the ancient walls, we could feel the rich history surrounding us. The architecture and the stories associated with the site made it a memorable experience.
Day 4: Ba Na Hills Adventure
Day four was one of the highlights of our trip as we visited Ba Na Hills. We were excited to see the famous Golden Bridge, but the weather had other plans.
Upon reaching the top, we were greeted with fog and chilly temperatures, which made it difficult to capture the stunning views. Nevertheless, we made the most of our time there, enjoying the attractions and the unique cable car ride.
Day 5: Relaxing at My Khe Beach
Our final day was spent at My Khe Beach, known for its stunning coastline. Unfortunately, the weather continued to hinder our plans, but we made the best of it by enjoying a leisurely walk along the shore.
The beach is beautiful, and we could only imagine how wonderful it would be on a sunny day. Even in the rain, the sound of the waves was soothing, and we appreciated the moment of relaxation before heading home.
Final Thoughts: The Beauty of Family Travel
This trip to Da Nang was a wonderful experience filled with precious family moments. Despite the weather challenges, we created lasting memories and enjoyed immersing ourselves in the local culture.
Travelling with family can sometimes be unpredictable, but it’s the shared experiences that truly count. We look forward to our next adventure and will definitely be back to explore more of Vietnam!
